It is with great sadness that we learned of the death this morning of George, Lord Weidenfeld, the Founding Governor of The Weidenfeld Fund.

The fund exists to encourage friendly relations between the Christian and Jewish Communities.

George’s legacy in the light of his own experience in the 1930s has been the support of members of the Communities fearing, as he did in 1938, for their lives and the lives of their families.

Lord Weidenfeld regarded the persecution of Christians in the Middle East at the hands of ISIS as an outrage which the world must respond to.

His personal response was the creation of The Weidenfeld Fund to resettle Christians at risk to places of safety.

His foresight ensures that this work will continue and he remained actively involved in the planned resettlement of families to Europe even during the past few days. He will be missed tremendously.
